Therapist in Pittsburgh, PA (Online Therapy)
Millmark Counseling works with adults and couples in Pittsburgh by secure video. We have no Pittsburgh office — our two offices are on the other side of the state, in East Stroudsburg and Allentown. What we offer here is therapy you attend from home, with Catherine Denzel, LCSW.
Distance is the point, not the drawback
Pittsburgh is about five hours from our offices. There is no version of this where you drive to us, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Everything here happens by video.
For some people that distance is precisely what makes it workable. Pittsburgh’s professional world — particularly in healthcare, higher education and research — is tightly connected. If you have spent time avoiding a therapist who might share your department, your hospital system or your supervisor, a clinician several hundred miles away removes that calculation entirely.
Who we tend to see from Western Pennsylvania
Adults and couples. A good proportion work in medicine, academia or research, where long hours and a high tolerance for strain are treated as ordinary. People often arrive later than they should have, having managed for a long time.
The work is usually about anxiety and the physical tension that travels with it, burnout that rest no longer touches, grief, difficulty in close relationships, life transitions, or a persistent sense of not being good enough that bears no relation to what anyone else sees.
How we work
Catherine provides individual and couples therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is central: structured, evidence-based, and concerned with the thinking patterns that keep a difficulty running rather than only with how it feels. It also happens to work well over video, since it relies on practice between sessions rather than on being in the room.
Sessions also draw on person-centered (Rogerian) work, mindfulness-based techniques including MBCT and ACT, strengths-based therapy, trauma-informed care and solution-focused collaboration. Each is described on our approach page.
The one requirement
You must be physically located in Pennsylvania during the session. A Pennsylvania license covers clients who are in Pennsylvania at the time — which matters more in Pittsburgh than most places, given how close you are to Ohio and West Virginia. Crossing a state line for the afternoon means we cannot meet that day.
Fees
Current session fees, and the sliding-scale places held for genuine economic hardship, are on the fees page.
