Who we work with here
Our East Stroudsburg clients are adults, and couples, from across Monroe County and the wider Poconos. Many are working professionals, academics, and people in healthcare and mental health roles — who often carry a particular kind of strain that is hard to put down at the end of a shift.
People come to us with anxiety and the physical tension that travels with it, burnout and high-performance exhaustion, grief and loss, relationship and attachment difficulties, life transitions, and the chronic self-doubt that does not match anyone else’s view of them.
In person, or by video
This part of Pennsylvania is spread out, and a fifty-minute appointment can mean an hour in the car either side of it. If that is the difference between coming regularly and not coming at all, we can meet by secure video instead — and you can mix the two. Some people prefer to start in the room and move online once the work is underway; others do the reverse.
Telehealth is available to anyone located in Pennsylvania at the time of the session. That is a licensing requirement, not a preference: a Pennsylvania license covers clients who are physically in Pennsylvania.
What a first appointment is like
The first session runs 60 minutes. It is mostly you talking and Catherine listening — what brought you here, what you have already tried, and what you want to be different. There is no expectation that you arrive with it neatly explained. Later sessions are shorter, and longer appointments are available where the work benefits from them.
Current fees, and the sliding-scale places held for genuine financial hardship, are on the fees page.
How we work
Catherine provides individual and couples therapy. The approach is not one method applied to everyone — it is chosen for the person and what they have come in with.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a central part of the work: practical and evidence-based, it looks at the automatic thought patterns that keep a difficulty running and builds more workable responses to them. It suits anxiety and low mood particularly well, and gives you something to use between sessions rather than only during them.
Alongside CBT, sessions draw on person-centered (Rogerian) work, mindfulness-based techniques including MBCT and ACT, strengths-based therapy, trauma-informed care, and solution-focused exploration. Our approach page explains each one.
