Therapist in Scranton, PA — Online & In Person

Millmark Counseling sees adults and couples from Scranton and Lackawanna County by secure video, and in person at our East Stroudsburg office about an hour away. Therapy is with Catherine Denzel, LCSW.

You have a choice here that most of Pennsylvania does not

Scranton is close enough to East Stroudsburg that coming in person is realistic — roughly an hour down the interstate. Some people do exactly that, weekly or fortnightly. Others start in the room and move to video once the work is established, or keep one in-person session a month and do the rest online.

You do not have to decide now, and you are not committed to whichever you pick first.

Finding a therapist in a smaller city

Northeastern Pennsylvania has fewer clinicians per head than Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, and the practical effect is waiting lists — or an opening at eleven on a Tuesday morning, which is no use if you work. Video widens what is available to you without requiring you to move house or change jobs.

It also helps with the other thing about smaller cities: the chance that your therapist knows your employer, your family or your neighbour is genuinely higher. Distance buys a kind of privacy that is hard to arrange locally.

What we work with

Anxiety, and the physical tension that comes with it. Burnout and high-performance exhaustion. Grief, bereavement and ambiguous loss. Relationship and attachment difficulties. Life transitions and shifts in identity. Chronic self-doubt that bears no relation to how you are seen.

Adults 18 and over, and couples. Catherine is a therapist and does not prescribe; where medication becomes relevant we will say so and help you find the right person.

How we work

Catherine provides individual and couples therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a substantial part of it — practical, evidence-based, and aimed at the patterns of thinking that keep something in place. It gives you something to work with between appointments, which matters when sessions are a fortnight apart rather than weekly.

The wider work draws on person-centered (Rogerian) therapy, mindfulness-based techniques (MBCT and ACT), strengths-based therapy, trauma-informed care and solution-focused collaboration, described on our approach page.

Fees

Current fees, and the sliding-scale places reserved for genuine economic hardship, are on the fees page.
